What a difference 3 months makes, when you have Filwood Hope
Filwood Hope’s aim is the prevention or relief of emotional, spiritual or financial hardship by providing access to advice and services which might not otherwise be accessed. They provide a drop-in advice service and help with a variety of issues and hardships.
One such situation involved a young couple – we’ll call them P and Q – who lived in a chaotic way, whose benefits had stopped and they were sofa surfing/sleeping rough. Q was beginning to want change and was beginning to recognise that their partner was abusive. We spent a lot of time listening to Q and hearing this desire to change and be part of their growing extended family – but they felt stuck.
Filwood Hope worked with both, setting up Universal Credit accounts, making it possible for them to keep to the conditions of their benefit by helping them log in. They helped them face up to and sort out crises that occurred. They supported them when their benefits were sanctioned and contacted Department of Work and Pension to appeal decisions.
Q reached the end of their patience and told P they were finished unless they got clean.
Change is not easy; this was a rocky time for them. However, as Q told us – ‘not as rocky as it has been for years and years!!’
Fast forward 3 short months – they now have a flat; attending the job centre every week and more importantly P is clean; Q is much happier and they both look very well.
