Nadia and Louise
Nadia has been receiving tuition through Jacari since December. Her tutor Louise visits for one hour every week. Nadia was born in the UK and she speaks Somali at home. She was referred to Jacari by her teacher to work on her times tables, reading and writing. Louise is in her final year of studying Accounting at UWE.
We went to visit Nadia to see how she was getting on with her Jacari lessons. She says: “I enjoy my Jacari lessons. My favourite thing about Jacari is that if I get stuck, my tutor will come and help me. I play games with Louise every week to help me learn and get better at spelling, grammar and counting.” Nadia’s mum Ubah agrees that Jacari has had a real impact on Nadia: “I feel so lucky to have a tutor and that I am not on the waiting list. Nadia gets so excited about Louise visiting, she always asks me ‘Is it Thursday yet?’ and is waiting for Louise to arrive. Since Louise has been helping Nadia, her teacher has told me that she has improved. I think it helps because Nadia is so comfortable speaking to Louise and asking her questions, now she has become more confident asking for help, and is happy to put up her hand at school when she doesn’t understand something. All of my neighbours are jealous that I have a Jacari tutor and they have been told they have to wait!”
This year, Jacari has supported over 90 pupils across Bristol through our tuition programme. Please give generously to help us ensure we can reach even more young people in this academic year!
