Bristol Giving Day Bristol Giving Day

High energy launch for Bristol Giving Day

Bristol Giving Day was launched this week to great acclaim as Quartet Community Foundation brought businesses, charities and the public sector together to address Bristol’s needs.

Described by Mayor Marvin Rees as a “powerful morning”, the Mayor spoke passionately of the challenges facing our city – challenges which the Bristol Giving Day initiative is addressing. James Durie (Director of Bristol Chamber of Commerce & Initiative), Sue Turner (Quartet Community Foundation CEO) and Lizzie Bond, (CEO of local charity Changing Tunes) showed how business can use Bristol Giving Day to promote engagement for their employees and support local charities, community and voluntary groups.

October 10 2018 is the day that Bristol businesses will show their “generocity”, engaging in all manner of activities from intellectual quizzes to energetic physical challenges, whilst raising funds for small local good causes and charities. The audience at the launch event enthusiastically discussed what they could do on Bristol Giving Day – but the infamous bath of beans was vetoed as a waste of good food!

Although beans weren’t on the breakfast menu, The Square Food Foundation provided a scrumptious menu, with options to suit all tastes.

The Foundation, at Triodos Bank, proved to be a stunning venue for the launch event.

Despite the good humour and fun focus of the morning, the underlying seriousness wasn’t neglected. One of the challenges Sue Turner highlighted was the reality that 90% of charitable donations go to the 7% largest charities.

“Our local charities, community and voluntary groups are hugely important to making our City a better place for everyone here. These groups need support to enable them to keep helping others; businesses want to help but find it very difficult to locate the local causes to give to. Through Bristol Giving Day we can bridge this gap”, Sue said. “Quartet Community Foundation reaches deep into all parts of our community.”

Bristol Giving Day is endorsed by the High Sheriff, Lord Lieutenant and Metro Mayor, supported by Bristol’s superb membership organisations and sponsored by The Bank of Ireland UK, Burges Salmon and Unite Students.

Bristol Giving Day will add to the City’s history and future generocity.
