From struggling to survive to saving the planet…Ross’s remarkable story

Money Advice can be life saving. Each day Talking Money offers support and advice to people like Ross. After falling on hard times after a relationship breakdown in 2016, Ross went on to experience an extremely distressing period of time where he struggled financially – surviving day to day on food bank vouchers and emergency utility credit – whilst also struggling with his mental health. After a failed attempt to take his own life in October 2016, a few months after being released from hospital, Ross came to Talking Money. The charity have since helped him seek specialist housing support, helped liaise with the local Council to reassess his housing benefit award, and even applied for financial help to help him afford books and materials when he made the decision to apply for full time study. Ross has now successfully completed his Masters in Applied Ecology and, with continued support from the charity, works self-employed where he runs wildlife and conservation education programmes for children. Nick, Ross’s Benefits Caseworker, said: “His resilience, and the fact that he was able to come to Talking Money and ask for help, meant that Ross was able to get the assistance and support in place to get through this time in his life.”
